Emerald emerged again, the sun shimmering on her smooth back. The pup was underweight. her family was small, and was barley able to get by with what they had. All the pups and adults alike were skinny. The young pup had no idea why. She sat down on her tiny haunches and looked around the desert.

Stratus came above ground, he noticed how skinny Emerald looked. It was strange, the wet season was supposed to be when food was plentiful. If they didn't have much food now, what was to happen when the dry season came?

ooc: I've had Shirley disperse for a bit.

Emerald didn't notice her uncle eying his skinny niece. She was gazing around the vast landscape of the desert, watching the colors dance before her wide green eyes.

Pamela emerges and looks at Emerald sympathetically. They had all struggled since the fire and loss of half the group. She hoped the members in the larger half of the group were faring better, but not knowing their ultimate fate, was not sure what to think. She looks around through her left and only functioning eye, hoping the group would soon be able to forage.

Tisca emerged from the spacious burrow and stretched. Although her mind felt refreshed from the night’s rest her stomach thought the opposite. Life without the major half of the group had proved to be a struggle and could only have just begun.
Churr’ing to Stratus, she approached the dominant male and began to caring groom any unwanted ticks off of his shoulder regions. Maybe socialising would take her mind off being hungry.


Emerging shortly after Tisca, Chester Quavers looked around before slowly trudging out of the burrow. Sitting herself behind Emerald she gazed over her shoulder at the slightly leaning Camel Thorn tree which over looked their new home.


Having emerged from a different entrance from the burrow complex, Morning Glory climbed up onto a protruding tree root and stared at the horizon in a determined mood. Securing a larger burrow near previously un-foraged ground hadn’t been too difficult to achieve, the problem had been the wild neighbours that over time had plundered most of the juicy finds from the area and now her small group were barely able to get by.

Frowning and twitching her head in the direction of the sun’s warm rays she contemplated further the small group’s situation. Over the last few days alone they had lost several members dropping numbers down even further and yet she wondered if it was the stress of this that was affecting her body from conceiving.
Right now she was ruling on reputation and respect, which in the Kalahari meant for very little.

Growling to herself she wondered where Melrose had ended up. If she had been able to keep relationships balanced in the group would she have led the group to a better predicament? Would they be now bountifully dining on an overstocked larder of beetles and scorpions? Would she already be preparing the way for a new generation?
One would sadly never know, just like the unanswered question of what became of her sister...

ooc: I've temporarily dispersed Fletcher Renn as he wasn't really doing much and the older characters are more needed here to support the group. That's why I've continued with Tisca and CQ is cute.

Tsumae emerged from the burrow, eager to sun and forage. Standing, she felt the sun soak into her fur, then started to groom herself before going to forage.

Pamela continues scanning the area, trying to ignore her hunger pains that had been haunting her the last few days.

2 meerkats come over and see the group. this is what they've been searching for!!!

Baibey, a male, approaches first.

His sister, Galaxy, follows.

Pamela's eye meets the two meerkats. For a moment, she observes their behaviour before issuing alarm calls, alerting the group of their presence.

Emerald eyes the two new meerkats. She hisses softly. She doesn't know them, and thus thinks they are bad. All the little pup knows is that they aren't her family.

Stratus looked up and watched the newcomers closely, it was Morning Glory's choice whether or not Galaxy was accepted, but Baibey would have to pass his judgment.

Tsumae looked up, wondering what all the fuss was about. She seen two newcomers, and jumped up, growling.

Galaxy looks at every one and chirps.


Baibey eyes Stratus and bobs his head once. Helowers down, showing submission.

Hearing Pamela’s alert calls, Morning Glory instantly turned her body around and glanced back in the direction of the rest of the group. Interested in the reason behind the disturbance, she clambered back over the protruded roots and scampered over the burrow complex to make her presence known.

Curious at the arrival of two strangers, Tisca cautiously made her approach and sniffed the air close to Galaxy. Not recognising the scent, she shrunk back into a seated position. Sadly they weren’t anything to with the missing lost half of the group and would be up to the dominants to decide if they could stay.

Spooked as the new strangers appeared through the grass, Chester Quavers positioned herself behind Tisca and watched cautiously.

Galaxy lowers down, too.

Baibey watches...

Stratus approaches Baibey, tail raised and sniffing him cautiously.

Baibey sniffs Status back. He continues laying down, showing submission.

Pamela watches closely to see what Stratus will do to Baibey.

In his final judgement, Stratus scent marked the male to show that he'd been accepted. With the group split, the Tiny Kats were in need of more numbers.

Seeing Stratus accept Baibey, Pamela is immediately calmer. She manages a smile, hoping the make Baibey feel welcome.

Watching Galaxy lower herself close to the ground, Morning Glory approached the female and sniffed the stranger cautiously. It was for the goodness of the group that she had accepted Melrose, only to have the situation turn on her and bite her in the tail base.
However not trusting new females on that basis would be a foolish decision for any dominant to make and subordinates were the supporting foundations for any strong group.
Preparing herself to learn from past mistakes the dominant female scent marked Galaxy’s head accepting her into the group.

Chirping at the acceptance of the new members, Tisca stood tall on her hind legs before scurrying back to resume her sentry duty whilst basking in the morning’s sunlight.

Chester Quavers continued to watch the new members closely, once they were settled in the group she’d make herself known to them.

ooc: I'll lead the group out tomorrow if Galaxy hasn't replied.

With the new members socially interacting with the other subordinates, Morning Glory was satisfied enough to issue lead calls to get the group out foraging for what was left of the afternoon.

Hearing the lead calls, Tisca jumped down from her post and hurried after the dominant female, eager to find something to quell the empty feeling in her stomach.

Looking around for the younger pups, Chester Quavers spotted Tisca leaving and quickly made sure to follow. Hopefully one of the adults would think to hurry the young ones along for the journey.

Pamela happily follows Morning Glory.
